- Biography
Derek grew up in the sleepy little town of Brooklin, Ontario. Upon completing his history degree at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2004, he began a life of travel and worked as tour guide in Europe for seven years. At the moment he is traveling in Australia. When he is in Canada he calls Uxbridge, Ontario home.
After his experience as a backpacker in Copenhagen, Denmark during the UN Climate Change Summit in 2009, Derek decided it was time he stood up for the planet. Shortly thereafter he created International Stop the Tar Sands Day (international rallies to raise awareness about the destructiveness of the tar sands) and plans on continuing to raise awareness about the tar sands and the need to act upon climate change this decade in the years to come.
International Stop the Tar Sands Day will take place on MAY 5TH 2012. Join the world in saying no to the tar sands!
